Internships

Approximately 20 college juniors, seniors, graduate students, and recent college graduates are selected each semester to participate in a three to four month full time (40 hours per week) paid internship.  Interns receive a weekly stipend of $200 to help defray housing and transportation costs.  College credit may be available.  In addition, Interns can attend Kennedy Center performances and workshops at no charge.

Internship placements are available throughout the Kennedy Center in the following areas:

The Marketing Department is responsible for promoting the sales of more than 2,000 performances a year.

The Development Department annually raises more than $50 millions from individuals, corporate, foundations, and government sources to support the Center’s artistic and educational programs.

The Education Department produces and presents local and nationally touring youth and family programming, develops the skills of young people in the performing arts, and provides arts centered professional development for teachers, artists, and administrators.

The General Counsel’s Office manages all performing arts law-related issues for the Kennedy Center.  This placement is open only during the summer semester. General Counsel interns must have completed their second year of law school.

The National Symphony Orchestra consists of 100 musicians who perform more than 175 concerts over their 52 week season.

The Press Department coordinates public relations for the Center and the National Symphony Orchestra.

The Programming and the Production departments manage the artistic direction, booking, and coordination of more than 2,000 music, dance, and theater performances a year.

The Information Technology/Information Systems Department is committed to extending the value of the arts and arts education through the development of internet-based arts and education resources for students, teachers, and patrons.
