Organization Mission:
Kùlú Mèlé, founded in 1974, serves the community, by perpetuating and preserving African culture through presenting drum and dance traditions from the African Diaspora. This mission is met by offering workshops, performances, residencies and participating in apprenticeships and study tours. The company presents African American dance traditions rooted in the cultures and aesthetic values of the African Diaspora, blending West African ancestral traditions and African American creativity. Kùlú Mèlé draws on the musical and movement forms of Brazil, Haiti, Cuba, Nigeria, Guinea, Ghana and the Senegambia region, as well as African American vernacular traditions including Hip-Hop, Bop, Cha-cha, and Slop.

Requirements: 1. Determine and/or be informed about the organization's mission, services, policies, and programs.
2. Select the Executive Director or Artistic Director
3. Support the Executive Director and review their performance
4. Ensure effective organizational planning
5. Ensure adequate resources though fundraising
6. Make a personal financial contribution to the organization.
7. Manage Resources Effectively
8. Assist the board in carrying out its fiduciary responsibilities, such as reviewing the organization's annual financial statements.
7. Enhance the Organization's Public Image
8. Contribute to the Success of the Board
9. Attend all board and committee meetings and functions, such as special events.
10. Review agenda and supporting materials prior to board and committee meetings.
11. Serve on committees or task forces and offer to take on special assignments.
12. Suggest possible nominees to the board who can make significant contributions to the work of the board and the organization
13. Keep up-to-date on developments in the organization's field.
14. Follow conflict of interest and confidentiality policies.
