Job Description Minimum of a Bachelors degree plus seven or more years work experience managing/directing large events. Equivalent education and work experience will be considered. Extensive experience in stage management and production management with emphasis on performing arts, production and operations. Knowledge of nonprofit arts and culture community and disability service organizations a plus. Successful candidate will have a demonstrated track record in special events management, public relations, and sponsor relations. Individual must have outstanding oral and written communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills, grant writing experience, and an ability to execute effective multi-tasking. Must have excellent organizational and logistical skills with attention to detail. Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, database development and Internet applications strongly desired. Strong teamwork ethic is a must. Ability to adapt quickly to different social and work surroundings. Initiative, positive attitude, and flexibility necessary. Must be legally authorized to work in United States. Requirements: The Festival Director will be responsible for the management activities of the community-based Start with the Arts Family Festival and the 2010 International VSA arts Festival (IVSAF). This position ensures that the Festival activities are consistent with the mission and goals of VSA arts and will report to VSA arts President and Executive Producer of IVSAF. The Festival Director is responsible for overseeing major performances and exhibitions of artists with disabilities at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and throughout Washington, DC for an event that encompasses coordination of events on five continents and multiple events and venues throughout the city and attracts thousands of participants from around the world. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 1) Festival Production · Design, plan, manage, implement and evaluate all aspects of Festival , activities, events and show production and logistics including lay out, staging, lighting, sound · Design and create site plans, equipment lists, backline lists, etc. · Engage performers, writers, arrangers, choreographers, directors and stage managers · Oversee the contracting and on-site management of professional entertainers · Provide support in solicitation of sponsors, donor relations and media relations · Oversee assurance of proper protocol and meeting the special needs of performers, dignitaries, and other VIPs · Administer the logistics of celebratory sites involving stage crews, corporate sponsors, staff, city officials and volunteers · Develop strategies to generate audience development and participation · Manage extraneous activities, including receptions, hospitality, and special events · Solicit in-kind contributions · Develop, manage and monitor contracting, production and delivery by vendors and independent contractors · Create festivals that are fully accessible to people with disabilities · Oversee the development of collateral materials relating to Festival participation · Develop and implement workshops, arts events and performances, art demonstrations and special events · Produce evaluation and document program outcomes 2) Administration · Develop budget and implement Festival production plans · Manage expenditures and adhere to budgetary restrictions · Develop program resources as necessary · Develop human and financial resources · Oversee compliance with local and state government requirements · Manage negotiations/bidding processes with vendors, artists and consultants · Hire, manage, and provide hands-on direction of Festival staff, volunteers, and production support 3) Outreach · Oversee the publication relations, marketing, and advertising functions for the Festival · Recruit appropriate volunteers in the DC metro area to serve on advisory committees · Maintain and develop relationships with local government representatives, city-county officials, Visitor Center staff, civic, professional associations, corporations, ethnic membership organizations, as well as arts and disability communities VSA arts is an international nonprofit arts organization for people with disabilities.
