Strategic Planning in the Arts: A Practical Guide
Sustained success in the arts – as
in any business – requires clear planning. The goal of any strategic
plan is to develop critical insights that will direct how the organization operates
to achieve its mission in its particular business environment. A thorough
and disciplined approached to long-term planning strengthens both the administrative
and artistic sides of an organization. In 2005, Kennedy Center President
Michael M. Kaiser further developed a strategic planning model that he had used
in previous positions at the Kansas City Ballet, Alvin Ailey American Dance
Theater, American Ballet Theatre, and the Royal Opera House. This text
provides a sequential model for identifying and implementing key strategies
for mission success.
